“THE PRESIDENT AND THE DEVILFISH” ~ Join multi-award-winning author and renowned lecturer Robert N. Macomber as he shares the story of how the most famous conservationist of our presidency, Theodore Roosevelt, visited the islands of SW Florida in 1917 on an expedition to obtain a large Devilfish (Giant Coastal Manta Ray) for the Smithsonian Institution. Learn of what else was going on in his life right then, of his motley crew, Roosevelt’s instant love for the islands, the actual hunt, and what happened afterward. This was the last great outdoor adventure of Theodore Roosevelt’s life, and his legacy lives on along these islands in some beautiful ways.

Robert N. Macomber is a multi-award-winning author, internationally acclaimed lecturer, former Dept. of Defense consultant, commentator for TV & film, adventurous expedition leader, and an accomplished seaman. He was named “2020 Florida Writer of the Year” by the FL Writers Association.

His reputation for historical detail, engaging plots, distinctive characters, helpful maps, extensive bibliographies, and educational endnotes creates eager readers and listeners alike.

He is best known for the 17 novels completing his ‘Honor Series’, the popular maritime thrillers which describe the life and career of his protagonist, a U.S. naval officer, Peter Wake, from the American Civil War in Florida, beyond the Spanish-American War in 1898, and well into the 1900s with Wake’s legacy stretching for generations.

When not traveling for research treks, lecture tours, or book signings, Macomber enjoys cooking exotic cuisines inspired by his novels and sailing quietly among remote islands.
