Cape Coral homeowner volunteers making burrowing owl perches by the thousands
When Steve Jacobson began coming to Cape Coral from Minnesota each winter, he didn’t know what a burrowing owl was. Now he’s responsible for the safety of thousands of them.
It all began when Steve noticed an owl outside his home. He reached out to the non-profit Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife, where he learned that the organization desperately needed help making perches for the creatures.
Then Steve got to work.
“Just between December and now [Steve’s] made 500-700 [perches],” Greg Borchardt, a volunteer with Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife, said.
