Mayor Joe was wildlife supporter, will be missed

Jan 14, 2021 | In the News

It is with sadness in our hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of Cape Coral’s Mayor, Joe Coviello. He was an avid supporter of the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife and of Cape Coral’s wildlife. Mayor Joe made it a priority to attend CCFW events. He brought enthusiasm and attention to the plight of our most beloved and threatened wildlife including the burrowing owl (the official city bird of the City of Cape Coral), gopher tortoise, and manatee. With his leadership and support, several critical wildlife protective ordinances were passed.

Mayor Coviello loved his country and considered the bald eagle a precious symbol. Cape Coral’s bald eagle ordinance is now one of the strictest in the U.S.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Diane, sons and family.
